Calindra is a digital product engineering consultancy, and placed me at Haytek, an optical laboratory in Rio de Janeiro that manufactures prescription lenses.

Haytek’s scale is what makes the problem interesting: five thousand orders a day, twelve thousand points of sale, two thousand four hundred cities served, and a public commitment to deliver 85% of them within two working days. Every one of those orders is a different lens, made for a specific eye.

I joined the logistics team. It grew enough to split in two, and I stayed with operations, which handles internal logistics: the processes that happen inside the laboratory and never reach the customer.

It is the part nobody sees and the part the deadline rests on. An order stuck between two internal steps does not turn into a system complaint, it turns into glasses delivered late, and a two-day promise has no slack to absorb that.
